This serigraph silkscreen image includes the blacklight art light for viewing.
After several trips back and forth to Hawaii, each new serigraph spawned new ideas. Fascinated by the colors and the excitement of the Rose Festival in Portland, OR., I set out to replicate its festive mood.
Portland is known for it spectacular Rose Gardens, thus called the ‘City Of Roses’. It hosts the ‘Rose Festival’ and the ‘Grand Floral’ parade, the 2nd largest parade in the nation. Since 1930, a queen has been selected from a court of high school seniors.
The first fireworks were held in 1907 and still kick off the Rose Festival. With luminous paints, put your feet up, turn down the lights, add background sounds of fireworks and feel like you are there.
Luminism requires that printing and painting be done in the dark. Unable to see the day version in the dark, one mistake will ruin an art piece and I wouldn’t even know until I turn the lights on. In a serigraphy printing press that means you can damage a complete run before you are aware that anything is wrong.
Fortunately, we were extremely careful and prevented a major catastrophe. I breathed a sigh of relief every time we had a successful run.
